QUOTE BEFORE YOU LEAVE.
INTERIOR REPAINT WALKTHROUGH CHECKLIST — Get the job out of your head and into a clear estimate while you are still on site.
SECTION 01 / MEASUREMENTS
- Write down each room's length × width and wall height.
- Measure the paintable wall area — subtract windows, doors, and cabinets.
- Split ceilings from walls. They price differently.
- Note anything that needs a second look: stairwells, vaulted areas, tight access.
SECTION 02 / SURFACES + PREP
- Check what you are painting over: sound paint, peeling paint, stains, damage.
- Count patches, cracks, nail holes, caulk, and repair work.
- Flag primer needs — bare drywall, stains, color changes, or problem surfaces.
- List trim, baseboards, doors, casing, and texture separately from walls.
SECTION 03 / MATERIALS
- Confirm paint type, color, and finish for walls, ceilings, and trim.
- Estimate gallons from actual coverage — do not guess from room count.
- Add primer and every prep supply: drop cloths, tape, plastic, sanding, patch, caulk.
SECTION 04 / LABOR
- Break hours out by room or task, not one big job total.
- Separate prep time from paint time.
- Set the crew size and account for setup, cleanup, and moving furniture.
SECTION 05 / MONEY
- Total materials cost.
- Apply your labor rate to planned hours.
- Add your markup, a contingency for the unknowns, and tax where it applies.
- Check the final number against the work you actually saw.
SECTION 06 / SCOPE + TERMS
- Say exactly what is included: rooms, surfaces, prep, coats, and cleanup.
- Say what is excluded: major repairs, hidden damage, furniture moving, or items you will not paint.
- Set the estimate validity period, deposit, and the customer's next step.
BEFORE YOU LEAVE: Capture the number while the job is fresh. Review the scope with the homeowner, then send a clean, customer-ready estimate — before the details fade.
